The building was built back in 1895, it is one of the oldest buildings in Rockton... As you can see in the photos it was a beauty shop and had been for 65 yrs or so...It is the building my Grandmother use to go and get her hair done in and I my ears pierced when I was a young girl...what it was before a beauty shop is not known to me at this time, but I plan on researching the buildings history at a later date... Most of the lumber from making doorways into other rooms is being re-used so as nothing is wasted... My customer service desk is a prime example, were using the old bead board to bring a once tired desk that was tossed out and giving it a New/Old look...2x4's that are being removed are also being used in different areas in the building...not much is going to waste here, and besides lumber back then is so much different then today's lumber...a 2x4 was a true 2x4...and I am pulling out all the Old Square Nails, they are from a time when things were made to last and they are still functional as well as decorative... In addition to using the old lumber, we also support places like the Restore which is a Habitat for Humanity store. Items from remodel jobs and new items as well are donated to the store to Resell...the store is staffed by volunteers and the money raised goes to Habitat for Humanity...it's another way to help out your community and also help to be Green... Just a few pic's of the work were doing to our building in Rockton... We still have 2 more rooms to redo, but were making great progress in the few short weeks we've been there... I will post more pic's as the work continues... |
